Rice began his career in the music industry in the 1960s, working with artists such as Andrew Lloyd Webber and Elton John. The musical, which premiered on Broadway in 2000, tells the story of a Nubian princess who falls in love with an Egyptian soldier, set against the backdrop of political intrigue and cultural clashes. Rice’s lyrics for “Aida” were praised for their emotional depth and their ability to convey the complex emotions of the characters.

In addition to his work on “The Lion King” and “Aida,” Rice has collaborated on numerous other musicals, including “Evita,” “Chess,” and “Beauty and the Beast.” His work has earned him multiple awards, including three Academy Awards and three Tony Awards.

Rice’s contributions to the world of musical theater have left an indelible mark on the industry, with his lyrics continuing to be celebrated for their wit, emotion, and storytelling prowess.
