Portemonnee Van Een Oude Architect: The Wallet of an Old Architect

In the bustling city of Amsterdam, there is a hidden gem that many pass by without a second glance. It is the wallet of an old architect, a man whose life’s work can be seen in the beautiful buildings that line the streets of this historic city.

The wallet, or “portemonnee” as the Dutch call it, is a simple leather accessory that has seen better days. It is worn at the edges, the leather cracked and weathered from years of use. But within its worn exterior lies a treasure trove of memories and stories that only its owner, the old architect, can truly appreciate.

Inside the wallet, there are faded photographs of buildings that the architect designed in his youth. Each photograph is carefully preserved, a testament to the passion and dedication that went into creating these architectural masterpieces. There are also old business cards from long-forgotten clients, reminders of the many projects that the architect undertook during his long and illustrious career.

But perhaps the most intriguing item in the wallet is a small piece of paper, folded and creased from being carried around for so many years. On it, there is a simple sketch of a building that has never been built. It is a dream project, a vision that the architect held onto for decades but was never able to see realized. Despite this, the architect keeps the sketch close to his heart, a reminder of the creative spark that drove him to become an architect in the first place.

As the architect sits in a quiet café, sipping his coffee and flipping through his wallet, he reflects on the journey that brought him to this point in his life. He remembers the long hours spent in the drafting room, the late nights poring over blueprints, and the countless meetings with clients who challenged his vision. But through it all, he never lost sight of his passion for architecture, a passion that still burns bright within him to this day.

The wallet of the old architect may be worn and weathered, but it is a testament to a life well-lived and a career that has left an indelible mark on the city of Amsterdam. As he closes the wallet and tucks it back into his pocket, the architect knows that his legacy will live on through the buildings he has created and the memories he has cherished. And as long as he carries his wallet with him, he will always be reminded of the dreams and aspirations that fueled his creativity and inspired him to become the architect that he is today.
