Radon. (2) letters?

Posted on August 28, 2024 by Pulse

Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas that is odorless, colorless, and tasteless. It is formed from the decay of uranium in soil, rocks, and water. Radon can seep into homes and buildings through cracks in the foundation, walls, and floors, and can accumulate to dangerous levels.

Exposure to high levels of radon gas is the second leading cause of lung cancer after smoking. Long-term exposure to radon can increase the risk of developing lung cancer, especially for smokers. It is estimated that radon gas causes about 21,000 lung cancer deaths each year in the United States.

Testing for radon is the only way to know if levels are high in a home or building. Testing kits are available for purchase online or at home improvement stores. If high levels of radon are detected, steps can be taken to reduce exposure, such as sealing cracks in foundations, installing ventilation systems, and using radon mitigation techniques.

It is important for homeowners to be aware of the risks of radon gas and to take action to protect themselves and their families. By testing for radon and taking steps to reduce exposure, the risk of developing lung cancer can be significantly reduced.
